About Professional Practice

I am going to dedicate myself to the role of community correction officer after my training in Criminology at Western Sydney University. My professionalism as a community correction officer builds from professional training in criminology with Western Sydney University. In particular, my first year of training included a multi-perspective of crime. My second year of training included making ethical decisions in a law enforcement context, strategies for crime prevention, aspects of mental health, and the incarceration of marginal groups. During my last year, I had an opportunity to research the issue of reoffending and incarceration and conducted social research and qualitative interviewing.

Interprofessional Practice

I completed my degree in criminology at Western Sydney University. During the three years of training, I had an opportunity to work with my classmates' in in-group work guided by tutors from the N.S.W Corrective Services to share different perspectives on social issues. The experience I received will reinforce my confidence to work in a situation of teamwork such as formulating a management plan for offenders or organizing community service work for offenders. The skills of qualitative interviewing I learned would enhance my communication skill and confidence to work with offenders on parole, police officers, judicial officers, and colleagues within the corrective services.

About Ethical Practice

I always maintain my ethical practice as a dedicated student at Western Sydney University. I did never miss a tutorial in my three years of study. I did always go back to finish incomplete pre-tutorial tasks afterward such as readings when I was required to complete urgent assessments. I always read the comments provided by tutors on my assessments to further my knowledge. In the context of the university, I respect my tutors and my classmates regardless of their race, cultural, sexual, or religious background with inclusiveness and genuineness. Therefore, my ethical practice toward my tutors and classmates at university will be the same in other social settings such as the context of corrective services.

Generic Skills

I did always enroll in workshops on academic writing skills, English grammar, or online sessions about study skills or time management during the vacation period between semesters. My purpose in doing so was to maintain my standard of academic writing during my three years of study. During the last semester of my criminology, I did undertake ‘Foundation of Academic Writing’ and ‘Foundation of Australian Law’ that would reinforce skill of professional writing in my future career in criminal justice and provide an understanding of Australian law and legal system at the foundational level as generic knowledge beside my criminology training.

Specialized Skills

In my last year of criminology study, I had an opportunity to study Foucault’s concepts of crimes, Karl Marx's explanation of punishment. In addition, the social research skills either quantitative or qualitative I learned will equip skills to research issues of self-half or suicide among Indigenous prisoners in prison strategy plan in my future career.

Community Funding Application Development

My further capacity and skills of research and analysis on the issue of Indigenous mental health enhanced while involved with a group project of fund application for a mental health call center to serve the Indigenous Australian community at Nowra. My project identification skills magnified after having discovered the widen gap between Indigenous Australian and Non-Indigenous Australian on the availability of receiving mental consultation. Stigmatization  Indigenous Australian experienced from medical practitioners due to institutional racism I discovered in my course of criminology at Western Sydney University reflected the social trust which the Indigenous Australian community toward health service violated from qualitative evidences I discovered from research which guided myself and other group members ideal organizations to approach for the project of our funding application . In addition, my skills and capacity of teamwork on proposal development consolidated through group discussion on budgeting cost on employing staffs and purchasing office supplies.

Applied to debate on multiculturalism: Resolving Position Paper

During the last year of study of my criminology at Western Sydney University, I was involved in a project to debate the weakness of contemporary Australian policies by submitting a position paper to the context of local government. In my position paper, I did address the contemporary social exclusion of migrants, especially migrants from Asian nations to access high-reward employment and social capital due to racism within the institutional level of the macro context of the public and business sector. In addition, I also address the Anglo dominated of social media and excluded the voice or representation of Australian ethnic social media other than SBS and enhanced the idea of interculturalism in Australia.
